7th July photo - Wenlock Priory

Today I visited the wonderful Wenlock Priory at Much Wenlock. I had seen tantalising glimpses of it last time I visited Wenlock, but today I paid the admission fee - £3.60 - which I did not think was too bad and spent an hour wandering around the grounds, admiring the ruins whilst listening to an audio commentary - on its history. Even in this state it is an impressive place, but I can just imagine how grand it was at the height of its monastic duties. As usual I took tons of photos - so will sleep on it and see which one I want to use for my POTD.

6th July photo - nice juicy water melon

It has been wet, rainy & miserable today but this evening the sun has come out - so I thought that I could get away with another 'summery' photo - a nice juicy water melon.

I say 'nice' rather loosely as I hate melon! but the others like it and because of its colouring its very photogenic - I think the top one will be my POTD, even though its not very sharp, as I like to see both the inside & outside of the melon.

5th July photo - chocolate & black cherry roulade

Its a bit of a cheat today's photo, as we made this delish cake last night - but as they were all queuing up to eat it, there was no way that I could possibly make them wait until today to officially slice it & photograph it. It was cut up and demolished before midnight oops!

So here it is - in all its gooey gorgeous way - the chocolate & black cherry roulade (it was delicious!!)

4th July 2009 - Pablo Neruda

A few weeks ago Jane Dean (who I admire very much) posted this poem on her blog and I thought it was just beautiful. I have never really paid much attention to poetry before and I did not know anything about the poet Pablo Neruda - except what I had gleamed from the film il Postino. So decided that I should broaden my horizons and this book arrived yesterday :-

It is a biography of Neruda's life, which apparently was complicated by politics and emotions, at a time when his home country Chile was also going through political & emotional turmoil. I have also ordered a book of his poems, so hopefully after reading his biography, I may be able to understand some of his poetry. I can't wait to tuck into this new book.

3rd July photo - ice lolly

At last a nice cool shot - a Fab lolly.

It took so long trying to actually get a photo - its not as easy as you would think to take a simple photo of a lolly - that it was starting to melt.

I tried the white background again - but still shadows!!

2nd July photo - hot not cool!!

Today's plans for a nice cool photo have gone awry!

I had a really good idea - go somewhere to get an ice cream and do a geocache as well - a walk up the Wrekin. But unfortunately when we got to the halfway up cafe it was shut!! It was a very warm afternoon to be walking up such a high hill - but there was a slight breeze at the top which helped a little. So no nice cool ice lolly photo - just a hot & sweaty hubby - not what I had in mind at all. Never mind we found a nice sneaky geocache and I have a good excuse to go looking for an ice lolly for tomorrow's photo.

I actually quite like this photo of Steven as it has - if you look very carefully - the steaming Buildwas power station cooling towers in the background.

It was so hot that there was a heat haze at the top - but you can see how lovely are Shropshire fields are.
The Wrekin stands 1335 feet high!

1st July photo - Jenni Thomas OBE

What a wonderful woman!

Karen, Lou & I were privileged to attend an event at Wolverhampton today hosted by The Child Bereavement Charity which Jenni founded in 1994. She has worked tirelessly to bring support to bereaved parents and education to health care professionals. It was a small gathering of just 20 of us - so we were able to interact, learn and be inspired by her.
