Happy Birthday Charles Darwin

Today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin here in Shrewsbury. His father was the local Doctor and Darwin spent his childhood here - going to school at the Old Shrewsbury School - now our library. He left Shrewsbury when he went off to university at Cambridge and Edinburgh and then his important trip on HMS Beagle. Therefore I think it is fitting that today's photograph reflects Darwin's importance.

This is a plaque that has been placed outside his old school.

This plaque has been placed outside St Chads church - which I find rather surprising as Darwin's theories dismantled all the Churches thinking and beliefs on the creation etc.
